Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President, Shri Keisham Meghachandra Singh, today visited the flood-inundated areas of Heingang Assembly Constituency in Imphal East District to assess the ground realities and the hardships faced by the affected residents. He was accompanied by AICC Member Shri N. Bupenda Meitei, Manipur PCC General Secretary Shri P. Saratchandra, and other senior leaders.

During the visit, Shri P. Saratchandra, former INC candidate from Heingang and current General Secretary of Manipur PCC, briefed the PCC President on the specific areas severely impacted by the flooding within the constituency.

While addressing the media, Shri Meghachandra Singh underscored the complete failure of the Water Resources Department, Government of Manipur, in managing flood control across vulnerable riverbank areas throughout the state. He highlighted that residential and agricultural lands are now submerged due to the breach of river embankments and the overflow of rivers, attributing these failures to the incomplete construction of critical retaining walls along the riverbanks.

Shri Meghachandra further revealed that projects undertaken under the Flood Management and Border Area Programme of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, have not been completed within the stipulated timeframe, despite the urgent need for these flood control and anti-erosion measures in Manipur.

He pointed out that the Union Ministry had sanctioned ₹460 crores for flood control measures in Manipur, and that Bharatia Infra Project Ltd (BIPL), a company allegedly having close ties with the BJP, was awarded projects worth ₹168 crores with a one-year completion timeline under a 2023 contract agreement. Shri Meghachandra questioned the inexplicable delays in completing these critical projects, which should have been concluded within the last two years, leaving the people of Manipur vulnerable to repeated flooding.

Expressing deep concern, Shri Meghachandra Singh also extended solidarity with the flood-affected people of Singjamei, Khurai, Wangkhei Assembly Constituencies, and other regions across Imphal East, Thoubal District, and affected areas in both the valley and hill districts of Manipur, reaffirming the Congress Party’s commitment to standing with the people during these challenging times.other areas in Imphal East District, Thoubal District and other areas of valley and hills in Manipur.
