The Deterioration of Quality Education
The education system in India has witnessed a troubling decline during the Modi government’s tenure. Promises that once inspired hope have turned into hollow declarations, leading to a situation where the youth’s aspirations are consistently thwarted. A focus on privatization has pushed education beyond the financial reach of countless families, resulting in a widening inequality that threatens the fabric of our society.
Unfulfilled Promises and Rising Unemployment
Despite the ambitious launch of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, its implementation remains in limbo. There is a stark lack of funding and support from the government, causing much confusion in our educational landscape. Even worse, graduates are facing unprecedented unemployment due to the poor quality of education and lack of meaningful skill training. It is imperative that India’s youth find respectable employment, rather than mere degrees that hold little value.
Calls for Urgent Reforms
As we reflect on the failures of the current educational structure, we must advocate for urgent reforms. All vacant teacher positions should be filled immediately, and a minimum of 6% of GDP should be allocated to education. Moreover, the implementation of transparent and fair exam management is crucial to restore credibility in educational assessments. If we want to secure a brighter future for our youth, we must ensure academic freedom and actively involve all stakeholders in shaping the educational framework. Now is the time for action!
